Progress Update

By | August 23, 2012

It has been a while since my latest progress update. A few months ago, all of my “well-laid-out” plans were shaken up a little bit. I was planning on using this blog to track my progress to self-employment and then eventually, early retirement. Unfortunately, things changed and publishing too much information can turn into a disaster. It can not only put a target on your back, but also give yourself some of the toughest competition, thereby hindering your plans.

My Struggle with Authenticity

Because of this, I have really struggled with what type of content to write on this blog. I hired a staff writer to help me with 2 posts a month while I figure it out and have been doing some brainstorming, all the while continuing to work hard to build up my online portfolio (i.e. blog empire). I wrote about blogging a lot and I don’t want this blog to just turn into another “this is how you make money blogging” type of blog. That seems too boring – not only for you, the reader, but also for me.

To be honest, I have come to learn that I hate writing about blogging. I would much rather just do it. I still plan to share some tips that I have learned along the way, but only insofar as they are helpful. I refuse to fall into the “get rich with blogging” niche.

Re-Finding My Focus

After about a month of thinking about how to re-vitalize this blog, I stumbled across some new material for content. It just so happens that I have been trying to diversify my income (as I will explain in a future post) and trying to make my money work for me. Previously, I was thinking that I was really close to investing in real estate, but I think that is further away than I expected. At least a couple years.

While I don’t want to share all of the details in this post, I do want to get back to what I originally planned for this blog – that is a dual focus. Passive Income and Retirement. This is what this blog is focused around and that’s what I plan on continuing. In the coming posts, I will talk about my effort to diversify, in it’s many subtleties, and share my experience. I still plan on getting out of the rat race as soon as possible and sharing my steps to do so.

I hope you are excited as I am because I have a lot of new ideas for content and I think you will enjoy them and benefit from them.
